Garden Fairies bring spice and color to local fundraisers
Stone Soup Benefit
With tumultuous tropical weather finally waning, Nov. 12, 2005 we ventured out to enjoy lovely mild weather and an energized evening. Our first stop was "The Sullivan Gallery" where we joined forces with many other local artists who participated in "The Stone Soup Benefit" for a local outreach center and soup kitchen.
The event was billed as a fine blend of savory art for your enjoyment. The
Garden Fairies added the "spice" to the evening, donning (and also
donating for silent auction) some of our latest hat creations, named "The
Mardi Gras Series".
The
hats were dedicated to the people of New Orleans, especially our creative "sisters
and brothers" who we hope, are on the road to recovery. Originally,
we donated three hats, which grew into four, when a woman visiting from Great
Bend, Ind. fell in love with another hat we had on hand.
Second stop was at "The Blue Moon" Gallery, recently opened by Garden
Fairy Dorothy Brown (and her husband Dennis) on Tarpon Avenue. Their new space
is reminiscent of a Soho gallery, but with hometown Tarpon charm.
The show was great, featuring many talented local artists, including fellow Garden Fairy, Lin Carte.
Every year The Garden Fairies do a major fundraiser. Fall of 2005, we
participated in our local hospital's major gala benefit, “Club
Caribe”. Attended by 400 people, held at Westin Innisbrook, featured
nineteen "Chairs
that Care". Seven of these chairs one-of-a kind artistically decorated
Adirondack Chairs were made by the 10 Garden Fairies
and 2 Garden Kahunas.
Constructed out of numerous slates, decorating adirondack type chairs
turned out to be a ton of work. Each chair took a team 3 to 5 days to
complete. Additionally, twenty stepping stones, a great compliment to
the chairs, were made by 16 Garden Fairies. All proceeds benefiting HEMH’s
birthing center. Many thanks to all the Fairies who helped with this
local humanitarian effort, another testament to the Garden Fairies prodigious
talents.

" Let's decorate what we drank from" or "Drink wine, eat and stick stuff on bottles"
Looking
for an really inexpensive way to decorate a large hall for
an upcoming benefit, we decided to use something most of
us use and discard on a daily basis. Wine bottles and cans
become the our decorating vessels, decoupage and over painted
ended up doing double duty. Sold at the end of the evening
gala, held May 5, 2005, we ended up raising $750 for "The Friends of Anclote River".
Dedicated to preserving our location natural treasures "The Friends of Anclote River" are committed to preserving the environmental beauty of the Anclote River as an important feature of Tarpon Springs’ cultural
history.
Pictured here, we are decoupaging centerpieces for 50 tables made out of leftover wine bottles. Once dried, the bottles were handpainted with a unique designs evoking the flora and fauna of the Anclote River and filled with Palmetto palms.
